納豆のフタ

納豆のフタをリサイクル（今だけね）してコーヒーを飲みつつ、
ゆったりとした休日が始まりました。
昨夜は遅くまで仕事をしていたので目が赤いです。

I'm recycling Natto's lid for my coffee saucer (just for now).
Good slow beginning of my holidays.
I worked too much last night and now my eyes got inflamed!
Ha ha.. brutal.

Pitch Black Keeps My Pitch

There is no place like Tokyo where people care

so much about what they wear (especially youngsters),

and you can't agree more if you’ve left Tokyo for a good little while.

People here in Tokyo are all so fashion geeks to my eyes!

...and I'm proud. :-)

They compare all these blogs, websites, magazines..

you name it, and not just that but even customize

their own flavor. Quite a SPECTACLE even just for

half an hour when looked down from famous

Starbucks upper seats in Shibuya.

Well, not really if you’ve lived only in Tokyo your whole life, huh?

世界の他の地域から帰ってくるとわかりますが、

東京ほど（特に若者？）服装にこだわる人が多い場所は

無いのではと思います。皆勉強熱心。雑誌やブログやネットを見比べ、

かしこく工夫している。渋谷のスタバから30分ほど見下ろしているだけでも

楽しいです。ずっと東京にいる人は慣れてしまって、

あまりそうは感じないかもしれませんが。。

Now, when I look back my days in New York,

sure you can call it a gung-ho fashionista. New York streets are

full of dents (due to bad pavement maintenance, NEVER seen in Japan),

but cab fare is almost a third of Japan. This makes it a lot easier

to enjoy stilettos with less stress on my feet. And many people

do not know that Tokyo have way more people than Manhattan

(you know a large population itself is a stress!),

although Gotham City is known as the world's capital.

And what happened now to my current fashion that I am based

back in Tokyo? Well, I care way less, and wear simpler ones.

Here come black clothes for me to make it look like I know it all,

like a Ph.D. in fashion. I actually do not know much about fashion,

and not own many clothes, but black clothes help me look

the other way. What is your favorite or helpful color to wear?

さて、書く言う私Skylerはニューヨークにいたころは、

今思えば「イケイケ」でした。道路の舗装状況は

東京と比べられないほど最悪のボコボコですが、ヒールで歩いても、

タクシー運賃が日本の約3分の1ということもあって、足をそこまで

いためつけないでおしゃれを楽しめたように思います。いくら

世界の首都と言えども、ニューヨークは東京ほど人もいませんし。

しかし東京にベースを戻した今は、ファッションにわりと無頓着になり、

シンプルな格好ばかりしています。そんな私がかくれみのとして

おしゃれな「ふり」をするために、良く黒い服を着ています。

大してファッションの知識が無くても、すごいものを

所有していなくても、なんか「決まっている」ように見せられる。

そんな気がしています。

みなさんはお気に入りの色はありますか。

(Pre-) Wakeup Call

今日は特に理由は無いけれど仕事の合間に自分の卒業した高校のあたりに
行ってみました。AKBみたいな女の子がいっぱい！
皆リボンを襟につけたりスカートを短くしたりショルダーバッグの変わりに
リュックを持ったりと、色々工夫したくなるのは私の時代と同じです。

Skylerは、今はカーラーでまつげをあげるくらいですが、
高校のときはお金がないにもかかわらず、ランコムのマスカラにはまっていました。

高校生は色々なものに”目覚める”時期・・ですよね。

I casually drove and pulled over when I neared to my senior high area
during my (long) coffee break today, without any specific reason.

I know from my own days moon ago that
these young cutie pies customize their school wears
(my school does not have uniforms) with
ribbons, shortened skirts, and replace their shoulder bags
with cooler backpacks.

I just use eyelash curler today without any mascara on,
but back on my own AKB days,
I was addicted with Lancome mascara, even
when I was almost broke.
Good old days.

They're now experiencing, what you call, the awakening in many ways :-)

Who wins bread for whom?

Magazine is one of the old, original media, and I like it.

I enjoy reading fun articles, watching cool photos as art…

And I read both women’s and men’s magazines.

To my thinking,

female image portrayed in women’s magazines looks

independent and self-contained,

while male image portrayed in men’s magazines almost always

needs a female figure beside or behind.

So obvious I cannot even call it subliminal!

Maleness or masculinity would not complete without complementing female image by its side?

“Men dominate the world and are superior to women” – this is

what people generally say (agreed or not agreed).

On the other hand, men, however, can be described as

they “depend on women for the proof of their maleness or superiority.”

One of my favorite male writers says “a man would be hopeless

unless he has something to be crazy about other than women.”

So…what do you think about this idea,

“men are controlled by women and depend on women,

way more than the opposite case”?

Oh, by the way, it is such a turn off to see recent guys in their 20s

who overly trim their eyebrows... even sharper than mine!

雑誌は古くからあるメディアの一つですが、私は好きです。

面白い記事を読むのもいいし、クールな写真をアートとして見るのもいいし・・

女性誌も読みますし、男性誌も読みます。

私が思うのは、

女性誌に描かれる女性像は、自立していてかつ完結しているのに対し、

男性しに描かれる男性像は、いつも傍らに女性を載せています。

（サブリミナルとさえ呼べないほどの明白さ！）

女性が横にいて初めて男性性を証明できる・・？

「世の中は男性社会で、男性の方が色々な点で

圧倒的に強い（または優位）」との意見が一般的ですが、その一方で、

男性は自分よりも弱い他者（＝女性）に、

自分の強さ（または優位性）を証明する上で依存しているとの考え方もあります。

私の大好きな男性作家は

「男は女以上に夢中になれる対象を持っていないと終わりだ」と

言っています。

「男性は女性に支配され、女性に依存している、

女性が男性に対してそうである以上に」という考え、皆さんはどう思いますか？

それにしても・・

最近の特に20代の男性が（私よりも！）眉毛を細く整えすぎてるの、

ちょっと行き過ぎでは・・って思います。

特別な曲・・

誰にでも特別な曲というのはある。私にもたくさんあります。

そのうちの一つが最近出会ったこれ・・

ピチカートのMagic Carpet Ride.

聴いていてこんな気持ちになる曲はあまり他に見当たらない。

満ちているのに寂しいような感じです。

Anyone has a song that means so much to them.

Of course I have many, as well..

One of them that I recently encountered is this.

Does anyone know a song like this?

Hard to find.

Makes you feel content, but with a hint of pain somewhat.

Sure, Balloon Lifts You Up.

昔は、どれだけサイズが小さくタイトな服を着られるか、

ボディラインを見せられるか、を一番に考えていました。例えば、

アメリカのGapは一番小さくてもSサイズ、ということがよくありますが、

日本のGapならXXSが普通に売っていますよね。あのサイズのトップスを

着ていたものです（胸は大きくないですよ）。今は一転、

どこがウェストなのか判別しないふんわりとしたデザインが好きです。

多くの女性の方はその理由おわかり頂けますよね。

My top priority in fashion used to be,

more than anything, tightness. All I cared was how small

my size could go and how tight my bodyline could fit into.

 The smallest size at a Gap store in the U.S., for example,

is usually S (Small). But many of you may already know that

 the smallest size at a Gap store in Japan,

on the other hand, is XXS (Extra extra small).

This size is what I always looked for (I am not busty,

by the way) for my top. But look what happened now.

Now I am into soft and balloony design which does not

allow you to locate where my waist is.

Most women know why, I am sure.

Is Beauty only skin deep?

（今より）若い時はとにかくニキビに悩まされていました。

テレビで洗顔料や化粧品のコマーシャルを見ると、

「肌が既に元々綺麗な人用でしょ」と、ふてくされていました。

大人になってくると、比較的若年ニキビは消えるのですが、

今度は仕事のストレスなどによる肌荒れに悩まされるようになります。

また、一切吹き出物などが出ていないときでも、透明感が無く

なんだかガサっとしたような色合いになっていることに気づきます。

代謝とかの問題ですよね。一日に大量の水を飲んでいるというセレブを

良く見ます。でも私は水をあまり飲まない代わりに、

カフェラテが大好きです。。キュウリとか緑茶のパックを貼り付けるのが

いいというのも聞いたことがあるのですが本当ですか？

My youth almost equals fight against acne.

Face wash or cosmetic TV commercials easily made me cranky,

as I knew those products were for trouble-free skin. As I grew older,

these acne problems went away, while new adult troubles showed up

instead on my skin with work stress, etc. At an adult age, even without any

skin problems seen, I got less translucence and more dullness.

Mainly due to body metabolism, I guess. I see many celebrities

drink water to the great deal every day for this reason. I prefer

rich latte to water.. Some people say patting skin with cucumber or

green tea bag works. Does that worth a try?
